TotaLibra evolved from a need to provide architects, designers, and librarians a comprehensive solution to developing premier library environments.

Over the years, the vision of an exclusive product and service organization began to take root. It became clear that the American library market could benefit from the expertise of an organization focused on developing distinctive library projects. Architects, designers, dealers and library administrators needed a resource to turn to for exciting new ideas and inspiration. The key elements of this venture included offering exclusive, European-inspired furniture, dedicated library-focused experience, comprehensive design and project management services, as well as, international sourcing opportunities.

In support of this vision, the DEMCO Group acquired the U.S. operation of BC Inventar (BCI) in early-2003. Along with its sister company, Eurobib, BCI had been operating in the U.S. since the mid-1980’s. This acquisition made it possible for TotaLibra to establish itself in the U.S. dealer network, a network that has been effectively growing since the mid-1980s. The BCI and Eurobib product offerings became the start of what would grow to become an extraordinary collection of European-inspired library furnishings. It has quickly expanded to include the Bomefa, Farstrup, Marko, LIFT and Amat-3 brands, providing unique items for all areas of the library.

The TotaLibra brand was established shortly after that acquisition in 2003 to provide architects, designers and librarians new solutions in the library environment. Trevor Taylor was a driving force behind the development of the company and he relocated to the U.S. to establish and manage the new organization. Trevor’s career began in 1977 and has developed through building strong working relationships with architects, designers, and librarians internationally. In 1985, he launched his own company Library Furnishing Company (LFC) that in 1993 came under the ownership of the DEMCO Group of Companies. LFC was selected throughout the United Kingdom to provide services and products for many of most prestigious and innovative libraries in the country.

In addition, a dedicated staff of design and project management professionals has been hand-picked to provide world-class service. The group offers a cooperative approach to all aspects of furnishing a library from procurement and distribution of exclusive products, complete project management, design, presentation, to installation where needed.
